Kos Minar

This piece is inspired by my childhood memories of driving through lush green fields on the way to visit my grandparents. My father would keep us engaged by asking us to spot Kos Minars—ancient Indian milestones—along our route. I chose green fabric to create ‘memory pods’ that symbolize both the fields and the vivid memory of those landscapes.

The Kos Minars (Mile Pillars) are medieval milestones that marked distances along the historic Grand Trunk Road in northern India. Introduced by the 16th-century Pashtun ruler Sher Shah Suri, these pillars served as important markers for travelers. A kos (Sanskrit) is an ancient Indian unit of distance, while minar is derived from Arabic, meaning tower.
